Landscape and garden design in Mid-Wales, Shropshire and Gwynedd
Sue had an early interest in gardening and plants as her parents were market gardeners and so she helped to grow flowers as well as vegetables and fruits.
An early memory is the gathering daffodils and other spring flowers to make posies for sale.
Sue studied horticulture at Wye College, London University followed by a post graduate diploma in Landscape Architecture whilst working in landscape design. This grounding gave her the basis for garden design and also an understanding of larger scale projects.
Work as a landscape architect provided experience in the design of intimate gardens surrounding residential areas and retirement homes as well as small town parks, wildlife areas and fishing lakes. This also provided an understanding of contract management and budget control.
She has had the opportunity to design gardens for widely differing situations since becoming established as a garden designer in Mid-Wales. Coastal gardens are challenged by salt laden winds requiring shelter and planting with species terracing for access and to gain level spaces for seating and play.
Sue is aware that clients have widely varying expectations of their gardens and she always strives to produce designs which will cater for those needs within an attractive framework.
Families may need space to play, others need entertaining areas. Some prioritise growing the vegetables and fruit and garden organically. Some just want an attractive view from their window.
