Garden design process
My design process. Illustrated by an award winning scheme in Shrewsbury.
Initial visit - t he first meeting is the opportunity for customers to describe their requirements which might include entertainment and seating areas, screening, parking, storage areas, vegetable and fruit gardens, herb borders, pools and water features. These requirements together with the budget become the brief for the scheme and guide the design.
Design fees- following the first visit Sue sends written confirmation of a quotation of fees which normally remains fixed unless circumstances change. There is not a charge for the first visit unless the site is distant when travelling expenses may be billed.
Survey- the next stage is a survey of the garden including dimensions, ground levels, existing features such as tree, hedges, garden buildings, views into the garden, views out of the property and a soil survey.
Concept design- the concept design will show the arrangement of features such as lawns, paved areas and paths, walls or fences, retaining structures planting borders and positions of trees. The plan is illustrated by sketch views and cross sections defining the proposed changes of ground levels. Sue likes to meet the clients again to discuss the concept and check that the design is heading in the right direction.
Final layout- this drawing will show, to scale, all the elements of the garden design. Depending on the size and complexity of the scheme this plan may be suitable for obtaining competitive quotes for construction. More complex schemes may need a written specification detailing materials together with detail drawings to make clear how features should be constructed. Planting plans and schedules may also be needed. Sue can provide this information tailored to your design.
Planting- Sue is always happy to help with planting, either undertaking the work herself or by visiting nurseries with her customers to advise on plant choices and then work with them to plant the nursery stock.

Whatever the size, shape and location of your garden, Sue can provide design services to suit all tastes and budgets. Please call 01650 521 508
